Programs

In-School Programs are delivered in partnership with schools and tailored to each school's identified needs. Fee-for-service offerings include mentoring, academic support, attendance and student engagement initiatives, and college and career readiness programming. These services are integrated into the school day and designed to improve student outcomes, strengthen school culture, and increase academic success.

Leaders in Progress: Student Support
Program
Using holistic strategies, TLNYC’s Leaders in Progress provides a supportive environment that employs Youth Advocates to work one-on-one and in small groups, helping students build academic confidence and self-advocacy skills. Enrolled students meet two (2) times per week; one day focuses on academics and the other on social/emotional and leadership skills. Leaders Planning For Success High School Readiness Program Becoming Scholars Academic Intervention Program The high school application process in New York City can be overwhelming for students and their families. The Leaders Planning for Success Program helps lessen that stress. In this 5-8 week program, students receive dedicated support that walks them through each step of the process. Parent/Guardian support sessions are available based on need. Providing students with additional instruction and academic support in Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA), Becoming Scholars supplements regular classroom instruction. In this program, school partners select two (2) to four (4) classes where TLNYC Academic Support Tutors work with the teacher to provide targeted intervention two (2) times per week.

Every Day Matters Attendance Improvement Program The Attendance Improvement Program will help students improve school attendance through consistent mentoring, attendance incentives, and positive daily engagement. Students will participate in mentor check-ins, breakfast and lunch activities, and recreational opportunities that build relationships, strengthen school connection, and encourage consistent attendance. Successful Leaders College Readiness/Bridge Program Working Leaders Job And Internship Readiness Program Created to help high school students navigate the complexities of searching and applying to college, Successful Leaders is a bridge program that guides high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors in exploring a variety of post-secondary options. Enrolled students work both one-on-one and in groups to learn College Readiness skills while working through the application process. Dedicated to teaching sustainable skills used in the ever-changing job market, Working Leaders sets each student up for success throughout their entire career, allowing them to live out their passions, find fulfillment, and generate income to thrive in their personal and professional lives. In this program, students learn job readiness skills like interviewing and resume building.


Out-of School Programs

Out-of-School Programs provide targeted support for students beyond the classroom, with a focus on over-age middle and high school students. Through one-on-one mentoring, family engagement, leadership development, and civic participation, students receive the guidance and opportunities needed to stay on track toward graduation and future success.

Youth Ambassador Summer Program This six week program allows TLNYC to provide our program participants with opportunities to engage in community service activities, vocational trips and workshops, and lead workshops based on their skills and interests. This program is exclusively to our over-age middle school and over-age high school students. Participants earn stipends for their engagement in their activities. TLNYC Basketball Invitational High School Success Program Our annual middle school TLNYC invitational tournament brings together schools from all over the city and takes place from March to June. Games are held on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays with the championship games happening the second week of June. This tournament has helped decrease youth truancy after school, increased students attendance, and family engagement. Our HSSP is designed to support our over-age middle school alumni and first time over-age high school students. These students are provided with mentoring, academic advisement, family support, vocational experiences, community service opportunities throughout high school. Our focus is to help these students become college or career ready by their completion of high school with this year round program.
